Small decision, big difference: Our new tea packaging

Kleine Entscheidung, großer Unterschied: Unsere neuen Teeverpackungen

Sustainability is no longer a marketing strategy – it's a necessity

More than 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide every year. A large portion of this is used only once – and then ends up in the environment, in rivers, or in the sea. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, around 11 million tons of plastic enter the oceans annually.

The consequences have long been visible:

  • destroyed ecosystems,

  • microplastics in soil and drinking water,

  • declining biodiversity,

  • and massive burdens for animals and humans.

However, the ecological consequences are only part of the problem.

The hidden costs of our consumption

While many products appear cheap and convenient, the true costs are often outsourced to other places.

A large portion of global raw material extraction, cheap production, and waste disposal takes place in the Global South – often under difficult social conditions:

  • low wages,

  • poor working conditions,

  • high environmental pollution,

  • and a lack of protection systems.

At the same time, more and more wealth is concentrated in a few parts of the world and a few large corporations.

For us, sustainability therefore doesn't just mean "less plastic".
It also means:

  • consuming more consciously,

  • strengthening regional structures,

  • operating more fairly,

  • and taking responsibility for the impact of our actions.

Ayurveda means sustainability by nature

For us, Ayurveda is not just a health doctrine or a collection of traditional herbal recipes.
Ayurveda also means living in harmony with nature – more mindfully, slowly, and responsibly.

Ayurvedic philosophy is based on the idea that health can only arise when humans, the environment, and lifestyle are in balance.

This means:

  • consciously using resources,

  • prioritizing quality over overconsumption,

  • respecting natural cycles,

  • and taking responsibility for one's own actions.

In a world that is often geared towards speed, mass production, and short-term consumption, Ayurveda reminds us that true well-being cannot arise from exploitation – neither of people nor of nature.

For us, sustainability and human responsibility are therefore an integral part of Ayurveda.

Our new packaging: a small step with significance

That's why we have relaunched our asmi Ayurveda teas – in printed eco-paper bags.

Our new packaging:

  • is compostable,

  • comes without additional labels,

  • reduces unnecessary material layers,

  • and is produced regionally in Cologne.

This allows us to avoid additional plastic components and shorten transport routes at the same time.

Of course, a single package won't change the world.
But we believe that many conscious decisions together make a difference.

Regional instead of anonymous

In a time of global uncertainty, we consciously wanted to work more regionally.

Our packaging is produced in Germany – not anonymously on the other side of the world. This means:

  • shorter supply chains,

  • more transparency,

  • and stronger regional value creation.

Especially in economically and politically challenging times, we want to stay true to our path:
to grow slower, more consciously, and more responsibly.

Hand-packed with love

Our teas are hand-packed by Wertkreis.

For us, this is more than a logistical step.
It is part of our attitude.

We believe in an economy that is not only efficient, but also humane:

  • more inclusive,

  • fairer,

  • and more respectful of people and resources.

Every step counts

We live in a time when resources are becoming scarcer and ecological challenges are growing. At the same time, we know:
Perfection is not immediately possible.

But change begins with decisions.

With every more sustainable packaging,
with every regionally produced product,
with every conscious purchasing decision.

Our new tea packaging is therefore not just a new design.
It is an expression of what we believe in:

Less waste.
More responsibility.
More regionality.
And a future that is conceived to be fairer and more sustainable.

Thank you for being a part of it.
